Lophlex

Lophlex is a low volume, phenylalanine-free, powdered medical food for the dietary management of phenylketonuria in children over 9 years of age, adults, and pregnant women.

Lophlex - Preparation

Lophlex must be consumed in conjunction with natural protein, fluid and other nutrients in quantities prescribed by a physician or dietitian to meet phenylalanine and general nutrition requirements. Fat, carbohydrate and low protein sources may be used to supply needed calories and to fulfill essential fatty acid requirements.

Intake of Lophlex will vary depending on the age, body weight and medical condition of the individual. Intake is adjusted to maintain normal growth and development. Lophlex should be divided into equal portions and distributed throughout the day.

Mix the contents of one sachet with a small amount of water to make a paste. Continue stirring while adding water to make up a final volume of approximately 70 mL (2.5 fl oz). This would be a 1 in 5 dilution. Lophlex may be taken in a more concentrated form either as a drink or paste. If so, water or diluted drinks should be offered at the same time. Lophlex is best prepared with chilled water and consumed immediately after preparation.

Reconstituted formula should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours.

Store in a cool, dry place, below 86◦F (not in the refrigerator).
