Describe Yourself:

This thing was great, bought it for my mom. Went to the store and saw elevated seats for a lot of many and walked out the door. I didn't want one that just sat on the seat without attaching. Looked on hear and said hey for[$] if its not good I can always buy one at the store. I was deffinately surprised. The finish on this is alot nicer than the standard ones and once its bolted on it doesn't budge. Best part is you put your own toilet lid on it so it feels as comfortable as when you didnt have one. My mom has a nice padded lid that she paid 20 bucks for which I know a lot of people want. i dont mind using it either. Don't be fooled by the low price, QUALITY PRODUCT!!!!!!

Pleasant Surprise, my parents love it!

Describe Yourself:
good value shopper.

I bought this for my parents, who are getting older, and just having a hard time getting up and down from the toilet. They'd have to brace on the sink, or wall, or whatever. . . they wanted to get a handicap toilet, but needless to say didn't want to go to that much expense. They are also considering moving to a more accessible home, but not immediately, so they didn't want anyone to spend a lot of money on it. I asked them about this toilet seat riser, and they stopped me, saying,

Answer:
This is intended to be a riser that rests between the standard porcelain toilet bowl and your own toilet seat/lid. The package includes extended length bolts, which you use to attach both this extended riser and your own seat/lid to the toilet.

Question:
Can the patient sit right on top of the elevated seat? I like the opening in front. Male patient needs to wipe from the front after a BM. How wide is the seat? If the original seat is put on top of elevated seat it reduces the opening of elevated seat.

Answer:
Although this extended seat is intended to be bolted to your toilet with a standard toilet seat/lid on top of it, the rim of this seat is approximately the same 3 inches wide that I also measure for my standard toilet seat. In this male-only household the seat is often left up, and I will admit to drifting into the bathroom one morning, sitting directly on top of this elevated seat and going about my business, and only later realizing I wasn’t sitting on the “real” seat, so it can be done, but it’s not really recommended. I will mention that my porcelain bowl rim is but 1.5 inches wide, and a different brand of extender seat I have on a second toilet has a 2 inch rim. This seat has a 3 inch wide rim. The majority of toilet use for the male often takes place standing in front of the toilet with the standard seat up. The resulting “target” for a porcelain bowl is an oval with maximum dimensions about 11 inches wide by 12 inches deep. The installation of this extender seat reduces that opening to about 8.5 by 10.75 inches, or nearly the same as if you did not lift the standard seat. For the male, then, it does help to remove that piece in the front, producing slightly more open “target” area from the front. If you’re contemplating that this “gap” might make it easier to wipe from the front after a BM, I would add that removing the piece leaves a 4 inch wide by 3 inch high “hole” in the front of the otherwise closed bowl beneath you when you’re sitting. This leaves open the potential for - how shall I put it delicately - a guy who is sitting wrong, or whose body parts are slightly shifted in the wrong direction for one reason or another, to discover that a stream of liquid accidentally was directed at that gap and now the back of his leg/pants is wet.
