I put this grab bar on a flat wall (paint over sheetrock), flat paneling, and a wooden door, and thought it seemed to adhere and stick very well when I first put it on, I would come back a few hours later and it would be laying on the floor. I have now put the grab bar in a storage box. I guess a more perminant grab bar is the real solution.

Consumer Reports reviewed two versions of these, in an issue that unfortunately came out just after I'd ordered mine, which were the non-so-good ones. The main problem with them is that they stick to the surface for a very short time, so that if you stuck them to the shower wall you'd need to re-stick them after your shower. That's why I don't recommend them for the elderly or forgetful. I am, though, planning to take them on my next trip, where the showers won't have the permanent handgrips we've installed at home.

I used this product in the shower during my
recovery from a broken leg. They can be placed
anywhere, but needs a smooth surface, such as glass, to adhere. They did not stick to ceramic tile because it was too porous. When locked in place, they gave me a great sense of security and safety in the shower.
