Discount Medical Supplies for Disaster Relief

Medical supplies are desperately needed in Haiti. Individuals, offices and medical facilities are being asked to donate medical supplies to their state and local churches and relief organizations for delivery to earthquake victims in Port au Prince and outlying areas. I have already made substantial contributions to Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam. Most of the larger aid organizations have asked for funds rather than supplies, which are difficult to distribute and easy prey for thieves. I would be happier if Allegro pledged to send either a cash contribution or a carload of medical supplies to Haiti instead of asking their customers to buy such supplies, even at a discount.

Hi Barbara, thanks for your note. You make an excellent point and most relief organizations much prefer or require the cash donations. In addition to offering discounts to customers, business and individuals, we are making both monetary and supplies donations, as has been our legacy in past disaster relief efforts.
The cash received as donations by relief organizations is often then used to procure medical supplies and equipment in the US for delivery by relief organizations to Haiti. Those procurements are purchased from medical supplies companies like Allegro and we offer discounts to these organizations as they contact us.
Many organizations are gathering everything from shoes to infant supplies to flashlights, wound care supplies, bandages, asprin, etc. for shipments. It is an easy way for individuals to respond to specific needs. This was brought to our attention by current customers and nationwide church organizations. Although it is not advised to send supplies to Haiti yourself, individuals may be asked to make donations of hard goods to local donation sites. In that case, and purely at the discretion of the individual, we’re extending bulk discounts reserved mainly for larger customers.
