Bard Bedside Drainage Bag Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Safe. Sturdy. Lightweight. Easy Storage.
Cons:
Could be Thicker.
Describe Yourself:
Caregiver.

My Son uses this bag all the time rather then using the smaller 1000 cc. bag. He likes the fact he can go longer with out dumping. Mostly on long trips and at night. The Smaller 1000 cc. is great for going out to dinner cause you can hide it on your leg under your pants ,He mostly uses the 4000 cc. bag . The only problem he has is he's in a electric wheel Chair and when at home he puts the bag on the floor next to him while watching TV and will forget about it and run it over sometimes putting a hole in the bag. Wish they were as thick as the smaller 1000 cc. bags then the puncture problem would happen less. Keep in mind this is a person who wears this bag set up 24/7 .

Answer:
Yes. I have purchased a few of the Bard 4000 bags. They are great for overnight because they hold so much more.

Answer:
I don't know male/female -- the tube leads from the bag to a male hookup which plugs into the end of my catheter. I love it. The only problem sometimes the tube slips from the adapter.

Question:
Having problems with bags leaking around the valve at the bottom of the bag. Bag being used has a different valve setup from what is pictured here, although, it is a Bard product. Item number is 154005A, this is just the replacement bag that is provided by the hospital where my wife gets the catheter changed. We have a leaking bag about two weeks before the change date for the catheter. Anyone else having problems like this? Bard has been contacted, but has not responded with an answer, since the summer of 2011.

Answer:
First, YOU should help the wife change the cath. It is not hard to do, and there is nothing there that has not been seen before. Second, sometimes we have a likelihood of dragging or forgetting to lift the bag when moving. I have done that too and it wears a weak spot which can eventually leak.

Answer:
You should move the clamp up on the tube. It tends to get stuck on the green plastic pieces and that is when it leaks. Just move the metal clamp up a bit.

Answer:
I never have a problem with these bags leaking unless it gets dragged along on the floor. It doesn't take a lot to wear a hole in one and cause it to leak.
