Product Overview

M. C. Johnson CATH-SECURE Dual Tab

CATH-SECURE Dual Tab

CATH-SECURE Dual Tab is the companion of the original multi-purpose single tab tube holder. It provides an even more efficient, standardized system for securing catheters and medical tubing by the use of two tabs. The device is easy to adjust and may remain in place for approximately one week without altering skin integrity.

Economical and long lasting, both CATH-SECURE Dual Tab and CATH-SECURE Original Single Tab are hypoallergenic tape which feature a butterfly design with single or dual tabs extending from the center, wrap around the tubing, and anchor it tightly to the tape using a press-on hook-and-loop fastening system. They are made with alcohol-soluble adhesive making them quick and easy to remove.

These innovative, multi-purpose medical tube holders improve patient comfort, eliminate the need for constant retaping, permit repeated access to tubing without restricting the flow, and may help to reduce medical tube trauma. Multiple tubes can be held in place depending on the size of the tubing. CATH-SECURE® is easy to adjust and remains in place.

Dual Tab holder size: 3" x 1.75" Base with (2) 3" long tabs

Sold in Single (1 Each) packages.

CATH-SECURE® SINGLE TAB also available in Single packages and cases of 50.

Pros:
Easy to apply. Easy to remove.
Cons:
Comes off too easily. Can cause blisters.
Best Uses:
Elderly. paraplegic. long term foley catheter.
Describe Yourself:
paraplegic.

So far these are the best way I've come across to secure a foley catheter to prevent pulling. They're easy to apply and remove, more on that later, and do a pretty good job of securing the catheter. Figuring out the placement spot that works best will be a bit of trial and error. Try to find more than one place so you can rotate them to give the skin in one place time to recover before putting it back in that same spot. You also need to be careful that you're not putting too much stress on that skin. The older the patient is, the more important that becomes as skin tends to lose it's elasticity as the patient gets older making it easier to tear. Even in a younger patient, too much stress can result in pain and/or blistering that might go unnoticed until you remove the device, tearing open the blister in the process. To avoid those problems, think about the way in which the tubing will pull against the device and place it in such as way that there won't be any twisting. Also, make sure to get it right because it loses its stickiness immediately. You can't peel it off and reapply it. The easy removal is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing comes when it's time to replace the device. The curse is that you'll be lucky if it lasts a week. Take care not to get it wet when bathing. It's almost guaranteed to come off in the shower or tub. In my case, they usually start to peel off after a couple of days. Once I notice the edges starting to come up, it's usually fallen off by the next morning.

Not as comfortable as other types

Pros:
Sturdy. Lightweight.
Cons:
Uncomfortable.
Best Uses:
Foley catheter.
Describe Yourself:
Caregiver.

There are at least 3 types of these tube holders from this company and we have tried all 3. This is our least favorite. It attaches with a greater surface area and is harder to remove. Also the dual tabs to secure the tube are more difficult to use than the other styles.

Answer:
They both open. I haven't tried to secure two tubes with one. I use both tabs on a single Foley catheter with one tab wrapped around each side of the sample port. This minimizes slippage in both directions
