Describe Yourself:
Medical Professional.

I am a newly Retired Male RN. My wife is an LPN. Diabetes has led to Urine retention and incontinence, it is not prostate related. Dr recently recommended Intermittent Cath as well as Foley cath for travel etc.... Over the years I have inserted hundreds of foleys and straight caths, in both men and women in both the hospital and emergency settings..so I am no stranger to the process. I am just not used to being on the other end of things. Now this kit: My wife did the insertion. Her hands are not big like mine but the gloves were tight on her. If I need to self cath this I may need separate gloves, but I have big hands so time will tell. This has always been a problem for me in the medical setting. So many companies thing we all have hands the size of small children. Also: The syringe would not inject the sterile water into the foley port. We had to go with a different syringe for that and all was well so it was not the foley. It was a problem between the syringe and foley port. I have never seen this happen before with any products I have used in the past, not in all my years of practice. very odd. Otherwise this is a good kit. I believe the syringe thing to be a fluke...I will buy this again. If I run into further problems with the syringes I will contact Allegro, and make a comment in the future about it.

Almost perfect

Best Uses:
Elderly. Emergency. Bladder Problems. Following Surgery.
Describe Yourself:
Caregiver.

This tray is very convenient because it has all the necessary items for a catheter change except for the catheter itself. The gloves were a good fit unlike others that came in similar brands we have used. My only complaint is that the jelly package is difficult to open.

We use this at home once a month to change foley cath. It has everything we need except an empty syringe to remove the cath we are replacing. But we keep the old syringe each time to remove the old one

Answer:
Polly is right. However I use the BZK because it's seems less messy: it's clear whereas the iodine is dark red. I also had a minor allergic reaction to iodine decades ago.

Answer:
PVP refers to providine iodine and BZK is benzalkonium chloride, both are skin antiseptics. BZK was developed due to individuals who have iodine allergies. To me, they are interchangeable, unless you have an allergy!

Answer:
Benzalkonium Chloride and Povidone Iodine, both are antiseptics commonly used for cleaning wounds etc. I don't know what the advantages and disadvantages of each are, but I use the PVP because that is what they used in the hospital, and it was well tolerated.

Answer:
Both are antiseptics for the skin. Basically BZK was developed as an option for individuals with iodine (PVP) allergies. In the absence of iodine allergy, there are interchangeable.
