Freedom Cath Male External Catheter - Latex
Freedom Cath is a self-adhering, one-piece latex catheter for secure everyday use.
Combines a comfortable latex sheath with a wide, watertight adhesive seal. The Freedom Cath is applied by simply rolling it on. No need to apply adhesive tapes. The reservoir bulb prevents backflow of urine.

My dad is continent but he is bedbound and needs to urinate several times per night. He had a traditional indwelling cath to prevent further breakdown of a sacral decubitus but had frequent uti's. I felt that a diaper at night would be demeaning to him as well as cause further skin breakdown. I recommended condom caths to my dad and now my mom can get some sleep during the night. He also uses them on trips in the car in case of accident. I am nurse and I knew about condom caths but the general public- such as my mom and dad do not. Mom was getting them from the local supply store for 2x the price of allegros. We only bought one of the other condom cath styles to try b/c they are even cheaper but we haven't tried that one yet.  i am 86 and have nearly no urinary control - it Is my understanding -with a external device nothing is inserted into the penis-correct? if this is correct - must one be fitted or you just try until you get the one that fits best. Thank you for your response.

Yes, you are correct on all counts. This device goes on just like a birth-control condom, except on a non-erect penis. And, yes, you'll probably have to try a couple to get the right size - snug enough to avoid leaks, but not too tight to affect circulation. The sizes listed are the diameter of the catheter.
