Fr's is how thin the catheter is. You don't want to use a big one. I use a 12fr. It is slim enough to insert easily.

Fr indicates the circumference (like a round straw) of the catheter and the larger the number the larger the catheter (compare a child's straw to a fat McDonalds straw). I would check with her doctor and see what size they recommend. You usually get more information from your nurse.
I have tried the 10FR, 12Fr and 14FR for my sister and have settled on the 12FR.
If she cath's herself, the female cath may be better for her but is more difficult to use if the caregiver is cathing her.
