Product Overview

FloCath® Hydrophilic Straight Tip Intermittent Catheters, 16"

The FloCath® Intermittent Catheter

FloCath® Hydrophilic Straight Tip Intermittent Catheters by Teleflex are made of a clear, high grade medical PVC which helps to eliminate any concerns of latex allergies. The Hydrophilic Intermittent Catheter features smooth, polished Soft-Eye technology and a gently tapered tip for comfortable insertion. The hydrophilic coating reduces friction and tissue irritation that can occur with the use of uncoated catheters. The hydrophilic coating is easily activated by soaking the catheter in water for 30 seconds, avoiding possible contamination when applying lubricant to uncoated catheters. Designed for single use only.

Not easy to use unless you're at home.

Pros:
Does the job .
Cons:
Need to add water.
Best Uses:
Empties out the bladder.
Describe Yourself:
Neo bladder patient . Neo bladder patient .

I am used to the catheters that come with the water packets inside. I ordered this one by accident and it works fine at home. It's more difficult to add water in a public restroom than to squeeze a water packet that's enclosed.

As good as the more expensive ones!

Pros:
Lightweight. Safe.

Easy to use and stays slippery for multiple uses if needed!

Great catheter

Pros:
Lightweight. Safe. easy to insert.
Cons:
too long.
Describe Yourself:
Average Health.

I like this catheter, but still use lubricant, even though it is not necessary. It caused less friction on insertion than the standard intermittent catheters I have used in the past. The only downside is that there are no other lengths offered, so I cannot carry it in my purse.

Question:
Since hydrophilic coated catheters are easier slide in, why aren't all using it ? I was not advised to use it, maybe the nurse didn't know that much about I.C.ing, so I'm using a GentleCath straight tip 14green with surgilube lub tube.

Answer:
It is straight tip, but it is not very flexible. I don't know if you have used any other clear, non-latex catheters before, but it is kind of like a straw. The main difference is the lubrication.

Answer:
I've tried several of the Hydrophilic caths, and I understand how you feel about these. The best ones I've found are: Coloplast Self-Cath Plus Straight Hydrophilic Intermittent Catheter. They are more flexible, but not so bendy that they're difficult to insert, or fold over. Give them a try. I think you'll really like them.

Answer:
I use sterile water to lubricate this catheter. The reason is because I have had frequent bladder infections, as well as a kidney infection within the past 15 months. I try to keep the exposure to bacteria during catheterization to a minimum. In an emergency situation, I would use tap water and cross my fingers/pray! If you have access to sterile water, that would be my recommendation, just based on what I have experienced.

Answer:
I like using Modudose Unit Dose Saline 15ml, especially for when I'm away from home. They're easy to carry and a lot cleaner than tap water.
