You have to plug it into the wall. I love it.I have owned mine for several years now and I have never had any issues with it. I set mine on my dresser I go in at night remove the battery from my hearing aid, Place my hearing aid in the dryer, close the box turn it on and set my battery on the top of the dryer box!

Answer:
You can use any hearing aid besides the soft tips. And of course you need to make sure you take your battery out before placing your hearing aid in the dryer.
