Featherweight Reacher

works very well for our Friend.

I use this product for picking up laundry. I had my first reacher of this type for 16 years before it broke. Bought another brand for backup but it was so cheaply made.

I am an occupational therapist who teaches patients how to use a reacher to assist in dressing and retrieving items from the floor and cabinets. I would recommend this type of reacher above other types as it holds up better and has a prong at the end to assist in taking off socks. Do know that with prolonged/heavy use, it may wear down and break... so think about purchasing two.

very light and I carry this reacher everwhere I go even to the grocery stores and shopping clothing store to reach items on high shelves. It make me more independent when I am out and a bought

When you're wheelchair bound you lose 1/3 of your "reach zone". You can get things up high nor things low to the ground or on the floor. Some can by leaning over. But depending on the direction you are leaning you can easily toppple over and end up on the floor yourself! I've had reachers every since rehab when I was first paralyzed 13 years ago. I ALWYAS insist on buying a reacher with Grip-Cert on the "jaw". Grip-Cert is the coating you see on the bottom "jaw" or the part that grips. It's yellow on this reacher (my favorite color because it's easy to see) but I've seen it in at least 4 other colors. It's a type of rubber coating that really increases the grip you can get on objects. It's amazing what you can pick up with these with practice. From big, bulky items (always use caution, especially of getting from overhead) to the tiniest "speck" of something on the floor. Rarely does a tool have such power AND finesse. Lastly, one of the most helpful parts in the magnet at the reaching end. It's great for picking up anything metal (especially if you spill a box of screws on the flooor!). And the strength is impressive for the size of the magnet. The only caveat is if you are trying to pick up someething near to anything metal it can "pull" the reacher away from your goal. It's that strong! But with practice you can practically grab anything. Family members are always "borrowing" it to get something. Highly recommended.
