HOM 2

HOM 2 is a powdered medical food containing a mixture of pure L-amino acids free from methionine and enriched with vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. For the dietary management of vitamin B6 non-responsive homocystinuria in children and adults, including pregnant women and women of child-bearing age.

• Homocystinuria – Vitamin B6 non-responsive (due to Cystathionine ß-Synthase Deficiency)

HOM 2 - Preparation

The amount of HOM 2 needed to supplement total daily protein requirements (other than methionine) depends on age, body weight and individual methionine tolerance. The dose of HOM 2 must be determined by a physician or dietitian and may need to be adjusted periodically.

The daily amount required should be divided into 3 to 5 single portions and can be taken mixed with calculated amounts of other food (e.g. beverages, fruit mousse). For accuracy, HOM 2 should be weighed on a gram scale.

Store unopened cans at room temperature. Do not store at extreme temperatures. After opening, keep can tightly covered and store in a cool, dry place (not in the refrigerator) and use within four weeks.

Precaution:Must be used under medical supervision. For individuals over one year of age with proven Homocystinuria. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition. Not for parenteral use.
