Portagen Powder Intended Use
Nutritional supplement for adults and children with:
- Defect in the intraluminal hydrolysis of fat (decreased pancreatic lipase, decreased bile salts)
- Defective mucosal fat absorption (decreased mucosal permeability, decreased absorptive surface)
- Defective lymphatic transport of fat (i.e., intestinal lymphatic obstruction)
Portagen powder is not recommended for use as an infant formula.
Not intended as a sole source of nutrition. For chronic (long-term) use: Supplementation of essential fatty acids and other nutrients should be considered.

Composition
Portagen ingredients: Corn syrup solids, MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides), sodium caseinate, sugar, corn oil, and less than 2%: vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D3, vitamin E acetate, vitamin K1, thiamin hydrochloride, riboflavin, vitamin B6 hydrochloride, vitamin B12, niacinamide, folic acid, calcium pantothenate, biotin, ascorbic acid, choline chloride, inositol, calcium citrate, calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, cupric sulfate, sodium iodide, potassium citrate, potassium chloride, taurine, L-carnitine, soy lecithin. Directions for Preparation and Use:
Carefully follow the directions below.
For a quart of prepared product, add 1 and 1/2 packed level
measuring cups (203 g) of powder to 27.5 fl oz (820 mL) of warm
water. For approximately 4.5 fl oz of prepared product, add 3
packed level scoops (28.2 g) to 4 fl oz (120 mL) of warm water.
Both preparations will result in 30 Calories per fl oz of
prepared product. For other volumes, prepare as directed by your
doctor.
Pour desired amount of warm water into a suitable container. Add
powder and mix vigorously until thoroughly blended.
Consume immediately or cover the container and refrigerate.
- Shake well before each use.
- Do not leave prepared product unrefrigerated for more than a total of 2 hours.
- Product prepared for oral consumption should be discarded one hour after feeding begins.
- Consume refrigerated prepared product within 24 hours.
Storage: Store powder cans at room temperature. After opening can, keep tightly covered, store in a dry area and use contents within one month. Do not freeze powder or prepared product. Avoid excessive heat.
Warning: Not for parenteral (I.V.) use.
1 lb can of Portagen powder will make approximately 2.2 quarts of beverage at 30 Calories/fl oz.
