Powerful suction but too big for my tile

Pros:
Functional. Safe. Sturdy. Easy To Install. Lightweight.
Cons:
Suction cup is too big .
Best Uses:
Elderly. Disabled. Residential. Children.
Describe Yourself:
Practical.

The product is great and has powerful suction but the cups were too big for the tile in my grandmother's older home. While this product may be used on newer or remodeled homes it may not be the best fit for homes with older, smaller 4

I needed this because I am having difficulty moving around and need a total hip replacement. I was afraid I would fall in the shower because I couldn't steady myself but I didn't want to drill holes for grab bars. At first I couldn't get this product to stick. I called the manufacturer and was told to clean the suction pad with alcohol. That was all it needed! The Product is wonderful and I am comfortably secure. What I really like about this product was the ability to move it around to find the most comfortable spot for me to place the grab bar. It's so important not to overreach when I am trying to steady myself. After reading several reviews from many places, I chose this product due to it's sturdiness and reliability. Allegro sent the product to me immediately and for the right price. I would recommend them highly.

Not safe

Pros:
Easy To Install. Functional.
Cons:
Unsafe. has to be relocked daily. falls off the wall.
Best Uses:
Elderly.
Describe Yourself:
Practical.

I am a therapist by profession and purchased this for my mother after she sustained a fall with injury. I placed it on the wall by the toilet. By morning, it was on the floor. It is not a tile wall, but standard drywall, and the device should not fall off like that. It locks firmly as long as you relock it before each use, but if you do not, it comes off in your hand when you go to use it.

Not for tile showers Verified Purchaser

Cons:
Not for tile showers.
Best Uses:
Flat walls only.
Describe Yourself:
Midrange Shopper.

I read great reviews of this product. However, I discovered that your tub or shower must be flat for the suction cups to adhere. Those of us with tile shower walls of 1-4 inches are out of luck with this product. [...] It's expensive, so be sure the surface you want to use the suction grips on is completely flat with no seams or grout lines.

Question:
My husband's 82 yr old Mother lives in our home, we have fiberglass shower surround inserts in our bath, how secure will these "stick" and are the "Michael Graves" brand-style ones better? All we need is a grab bar for her. We really didn't want to drill holes causing possible leaking, etc.

Answer:
If it's a smooth surface it should adhear well. However, if it's a painted wall, for example, it will not get a good suction.
