As an occupational therapist I know hand splints. I bought these for personal use, thumb joint pain from arthritis that needed positioning and support. I ended up buying the same for my mom for her arthritis. Great night time wear, comfortable, supportive, relieved pain.

could use a little more padding as my tendon is very tender and swollen.

This support does just that, support, and allows some restricted hand use. The biggest con is that the neoprene can be irritating after prolonged use. This may be magnified in hot weather (we're in South Texas). I have used it for my wife and for patients.
