![]() My aunt has a colostomy with a huge hernia around the site. The barriers are failing often and we are wondering if this is due to the hernia. Does it stretch and contract?

Yes, the hernia around a storma affects the adhesive staying time because the stomach bulges and makes the barrier more prone to disengaging from the skin. I have a hernia under my storma and ecperience the same problem. I have not found an adequate solution to the problem other than having to change more frequently.

First, she should have the hernia fixed. The paste can help, however, it can be made more effective by mixing it with the Stomahesive powder to make it a little stiff then wet your finger and mold it where its needed. Also using the Hollister Medical Adhesive to help secure the barrier will help.
