As it's difficult to open my son's mouth, the sponge size allows me to reach his gums and then sneak it into his mouth between his teeth. When he bites down, there's no worry that the applicator stick will break off in his mouth.

I Use swabs to clean the junk out of my disabled son's mouth. He gets a build up of Saliva and junk in his mouth and eventually willl choke on it. These swabs seem to work pretty effectively..
They seem better than other brands, as I have had the Sponge End of other brand's come off, and I almost panic to get the sponge out of his mouth before he swallows it.
