Product Overview

XeroSox Waterproof Cast Protector

XeroSox Waterproof Cast Protector
Waterproof Body Protection

XeroSox Waterproof Cast Protector fits snugly and comfortably, telling you that it is maintaining an airtight, absolutely waterproof seal before you even get in the water. There are no surprises. You feel this watertight seal while you are showering, bathing, or even swimming and splashing about. It fits so well, you can’t even pull it off!

All other cast protectors are loose bags that just try to keep water out with a tight cuff. You can’t tell if they are leaking or not, and when they move around or slip down, you get a leak. Not good enough.

XeroSox Safe Nonslip Sole: The unique nonslip molded sole is specially designed for smooth, wet, slippery surfaces. And because the nonslip tread is fitted snugly against the foot and cast, there is no slipping around inside XeroSox either. The foot covered with XeroSox actually has much better traction and stability than your bare foot.

XeroSox Uses:
  • Plaster Casts - Water simply destroys a plaster cast, and the wet skin underneath becomes macerated and breaks down.
  • Fiberglass Casts - If you get a fiberglass cast wet, it stays wet and cold for hours afterwards. And it gets your clothes wet too!
  • PICC Line Protection - Preventing PICC line infection is serious business, and keeping it clean and dry is essential.
  • External Fixation, Healing Wounds - Must be kept clean and dry to prevent infection.
  • Prosthesis Protection - Easier than prosthesis removal, and you can stand up in the shower, or in the waves.
  • Immediate Post Op Hydrotherapy - Prevent swelling from developing, increase joint mobility, speed recovery. Used by physical therapists and trainers for professional athletes.
Measuring for the XeroSox

Measure Limb Circumference:

Arm: Measure the circumference of the arm about two inches above (proximal to) the cast or bandage. If the end of the cast is very close to the elbow, measure mid upper arm (bicep).
Do not measure around the cast, but around the bare arm or leg as in the photo.
Leg: Measure the circumference of the leg just above the cast or bandage. If the end of the cast is very close to the knee, measure mid thigh.

Measure Length:

Arm: Measure from the tip of the middle finger to where the circumference was measured (in step 1).
Leg: Measure from the back of the heel to where the circumference was measured. For younger children the full arm and full leg XeroSox offer the best fit; measure from their mid bicep or mid thigh. Don't worry if the XeroSox is longer than it needs to be. Move the extra length to the middle of the limb, the excess material will just shrink in on itself when the vacuum is created.

Use Size Charts:

Using the size charts select the XeroSox size that is right for you or your patient. The circumference is more important than the length because it is critical for a good seal. *Note the half arms and half legs are not normally used for children. Pediatric patients almost always use full arm or leg XeroSox.

Arm Sizes
The circumference measurement is very important for proper sizing, excess length is not a problem.
Leg Sizes
The circumference measurement is very important for proper sizing, excess length is not a problem.

Due to often short recovery times this is a NON-returnable item. Please call is unsure what size is right for you.

Tough to use, but works very well Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Non-skid boot. Keeps bandage dry.
Cons:
Time consuming to put on. Like putting on a wetsuit.
Best Uses:
Following Surgery. Keep absolutely dry.
Describe Yourself:
Patient.

Very effective at keeping what's under it dry. The boot has a rough surface on the bottom so you don't slip. I was concerned that it was going to be too big - my calf measured at the low end of the range for the size I bought - but the upper collar of the boot is very tight. The biggest drawback is the time it takes to put it on and pump out the air. Seems it would be perfect if you had a cast that couldn't get wet, but if you have a bandage that you can change if necessary, you may want to go with something easier to use. When pumping out the air, make sure you arrange the folds so that they won't collect water.

I got to go swimming several times while wearing my cast for six weeks. This product was great. A little hard to put on, but once you get the hang of it, it was easier. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

It worked perfectly for swimming and bathing with no leaks at all. a leg cast was a little difficult to work with, trying to get the protector over it, but it is a life saver for my 12 yr old son! Very easy to use once it's on. Highly recommend it!

Better than a summer without the pool Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Lightweight.
Describe Yourself:
Medical Professional.

This was a decent cover-up for my son, who had fractured his arm and had a non-waterproof cast. I would suggest ordering up in terms of size - I measured arm as per instructions but first size I got was IMPOSSIBLE to slip over the cast. Even the next size up required my husband using all his strength to stretch the rubber. I suppose it has to be this challenging in order to provide the water-tight seal. We used it a few times in the bathtub and the pool, and it worked. However, be prepared as it is not so easy to apply!

I can swim with my swim team!!!!!!!! Verified Reviewer

Pros:
Lightweight. Easy Storage. Sturdy. Waterproof. Safe.
Cons:
Bulky.
Best Uses:
Following Surgery. Water Sports.
Describe Yourself:
Athletic.

This is a great product! It really is waterproof and flexible enough I can actually swim with my swim team following surgery. The one con is I have to use lots of duct tape every day to make it more form fitting - otherwise I have a giant hand which makes swimming near impossible. This product is similar to but thinner and more flexible than the DryPro product. But if you buy this product do not buy it from Allegro - their return policy is terrible - they "could not find" one return and refused me a return authorization number for another although it was within their guidelines.

Needs duct tape included Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Lightweight.
Cons:
Tears easily.
Best Uses:
Cast protection.
Describe Yourself:
Mom.

This cast protector tore on the second time I put it on my son's arm. We were very disappointed with the quality but discovered duct tape applied on the hole kept it working. The pressure (to keep water out) was painful enough that although it was helpful in taking showers, he could not use it to go swimming
