Coccyx Cushion - Tailbone Cushion The Visco Memory Foam Coccyx Cushion is made of high quality standard density memory foam (3.5lb) and helps relieve back pain by reducing the pressure on the spine and coccyx. The temperature-sensitive coccyx pillow foam interacts with body heat to gently mold to your shape and provides customized comfort. The cut-out section eliminates painful pressure on the tailbone. Sloping wedge shape helps correctly align spine and tilts the pelvis forward to restore the natural lumbar curve, a position often recommended by doctors to provide maximum comfort and relief. Can be used with almost any seat: Car seat, Office chair, Home.....virtually anywhere. Coccyx (tailbone) bone pain can come from local trauma or childbirth. A fall on the tailbone can stress the ligaments or injure the attachment to the sacrum. In a significant percentage of tailbone pain the cause is unknown (always check with your doctor for diagnosis and proper care). Individuals with tailbone or coccyx pain (Coccydynia) often find sitting is the most aggravating position. Many tailbone pain sufferers find the most comfortable cushion is the type with a cut-out at the back, underneath the coccyx so that no direct pressure is placed on the coccyx. What is memory foam? Visco-elastic memory foam was originally developed by NASA and used on space shuttles to relieve pressure on astronauts caused by G-Forces during take off. It is several times denser than regular polyurethane foams, is temperature sensitive and always recovers to original shape. It is also called slow-recovery foam (see picture). Due to its distinctive property in relieving pressure, memory foam has been developed into many products such as pillows, toppers, wedges, supports, etc., to benefit millions of consumers worldwide. What benefits does memory foam offer? Memory foam offers the following benefits that, in combination, provides the ultimate stress and pressure relieving support: Memory foam has higher density and thus is more supportive and conforms to your body more. Memory foam is temperature sensitive. In normal temperature, it is firm, but when you use it, it reacts to your body temperature and molds to your shape. This way, it minimizes the pressure points, distributes the weight more evenly and provides customized support. High quality memory foam often has open cell structure that breathes better and helps distributes the weight evenly. Are all memory foams the same? No. There are huge differences in quality. One of the key differences is density. Usually, the denser the foam, the more supportive it is and the more it conforms to your body. High density foam (e.g., 6lb/ft3 ) is usually made with molding process while low density (e.g., 3.5lb/ft3) foaming-and-cutting process. Durability is another important quality aspect. Due to manufacturing differences, some foams lose their slow recovery property" over a short period of time while high quality foamsnever lose their resiliency. Cell structure is also important. High density, high quality foams usually have much smaller cells and thus many more cells per unit volume. This helps the foam breathe better and thus distributes weight more evenly. How do I know which memory foam product is high quality? Hold It: High density memory foam product is heavier than other products of the same size. Press It: If you use your hand to pressure the foam, it should recover to its original shape slowly. If the foam recovers too quickly, then the quality is probably lower. Look at It: High quality foam usually have smaller and denser cell structure. If you see big cells, then the foams quality is probably lower. Use It: If the foam loses its supportive property and feels like a regular foam after being used for a short period of time, then its quality is low. High quality foam maintains its resiliency even after a long period of time.

I bought this along with another, cheaper coccyx cushion, and this one is the best. I use it on my desk chair, and it consistently prevents the fatigue or soreness that would usually accompany a long period of sitting. I tried using it in the car, but it did not provide the same relief; this may be due to the way the car seat slopes down to the back. Nevertheless, it's a great product for my home office use where I often work for hours at a time.

I use this for my office chair, driving, and at home. I have a ruptured disk in my lower back and brittle bone disease. I am in physical therapy but it was not enough to provide relief for sitting over an hour. I was in agony. This cushion has saved my day. I can sit for hours without hurting. I like the removable, washable cover. It's discrete in design and has a handy handle and I even take it to meetings with me without being embarrassed. My weight is about 135 and for me, this is a blessing.

the computer and have been suffering from lower back pain for sometime. This was causing weekly
visit to the Chiropractor (with a office visit charge every visit) I have owned the Coccyx Cushion for several weeks now and love it. No more visits to the Chiropractor. It has already paid for its self and I no longer dread sitting all day at the office. It is also great in the car on long trips. It has saved me time and money. I would strongly recommend investing your money on this product.

I have a ruptured disk in my lower back. I am doing physical therapy, but that is not enough to relieve my back for long periods of sitting, which I cannot avoid in my job.
I use the cushion at work and at home. It has provided me with immediate relief from the burning back pain from long term sitting.
I was concerned it would not provide enough support to make a difference, but at 135 pounds I find it supports me just fine, taking the pressure off my spine. I have used it for driving also, it works very well in my bucket seat.
I purchased one for work, and am now purchasing another for home/driving use.
I like the removable/washable cover also.

I went in search of this particular type of cushion, because A) My doctor recommended this type of cushion and B) I sit behind a desk all day long and by the end of the day my tailbone and lower back hurt so bad, that I just want to go home, lay on a heating pad, take some medication and not get up till the next morning. Unfortunately that is not an option for me, as I am a mother of 2 girls (1 year old and 3 year old) and a caregiver to my husband who is disabled. By the end of the week, I am in so much pain, I can barely move and my children ultimately miss out on opportunities, because the pain is so unbearable, that I just want to give up. I am not to sure of this product. I was convinced this was the product to end my pain and suffering to lower back and tailbone problems. I figured this by the cushions discription and reading other customers reviews of the product. Since purchasing, receiving and using the cushion, I find that I am still very much uncomfortable just as I was before purchasing this product. The cushion doesn't hold up, so while I sit on it, it seems as though it flattens to the chair, so I'm sitting on my tailbone again. I only weigh 109 lbs. If it won't hold up to my weight, then I feel extreme sympathy for anyone who weighs more than me. I suppose the good things I can say about this product is that it has a convenient handle and it's transferable. I guess I am back to searching for alternative pain relief.

Received an injury to my tailbone from a fall several years ago. I'm 40yrs old, 165lbs and do prperty management and construction. Tried the rubber "doughnut" and found it too small and uncomfortable. Purchased this pillow to help alleviate some of the discomfort felt when sitting mostly while driving. It's well-constructed, has a zippered, removeable cover and built-in carry handle. Memory foam is enclosed in a netted material to help protect it. Has 3yr warranty. Have used it now for approx 2 months. It seems to help symptoms, however the foam compresses too far in my opinion and would probably be useless for heavier folks. Purchased one for my wife (who weighs 100lbs) and she raves about it. I would recommend this product for some but it's not for everyone.

I've tried about 5 cushions since I came to the US and this is the best. I like the way it supports my weight (184) with the smaller-sized cushion, and lifts my tailbone off the chair. it's not pain free but it's the best cushion I have for now.

This cushion may be made of memory foam, but it supports my weight decently. I'd recommend the smaller one for travel and the larger one for office/home use. if you're 175 pounds or over I'd definitely recommend the larger size.

Pros:
Attractive Design
Cons:
Hard to Control
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have a chipped coccyx and need something to relieve the pressure. The design of this cushion is good, except it's a little to long for my upper legs. Also it unfortunately is too soft, needs to be firmer so that the cushion can actually support one's weight and be comfortable at the same time. This cushion helps a little but doesn't quite do the job. The slant doesn't really make a difference because of the softness, it all feels the same thickness.

This cushion saved my career. I was seriously considering a medical retirement due to my on-the-job injury. My job requires me to sit most of the day rocking back and forth on my tailbone while delivering mail to my patrons. The pain was unbearable some days. I bought 2 of the cushions (1 for home, 1 for work) and have been steadily recovering from my injury. I am so grateful that I found this cushion before desperately giving up on getting well.

At the home of another person, I sat on their memory foam, "therapeutic seat cushion" and found it made sitting more comfortable. It had been purchased from Brookstone. I quickly bought one. I use it at home, while seated at the computer. It has been okay but it's quite soft and doesn't keep the tailbone lifted for any length of time. I needed something firmer, as I sit ALL DAY at work for 8 or 9 hours. This Coccyx Cushion just arrived and it IS firmer. Lifts the BACK end enough so that I'm forced to lean forward a little. I'm bringing it to work with me on Monday!

This one cushion has given me the first good nights of rest in years, I would'nt give it back for all the money in the world. In fact, if they made one that I could sit on that went from my feet up to my neck with that coccyx area cut out I'd probably have my pain cut in half or more. I have cronic lukemia & lupas, most of my spine is completly destroyed, I've had over 40 reconstructive surgeries & no relief until this one cushion. I can tell right away if I hav'nt sat on it correctly because there is pain, all I have to do is reposition myself until the tailbone pain is gone & then I know I'm in the right spot. Thank you so much for creating this product. You've changed my life. I could hug whoever came up with it.. anyone who lives in constant cronic pain will understand when I say that 'any' pain relief is huge.. well, if your tailbone is a large part of your pain.. get ready to loose that pain. I hope everyone tries this, I'm planning on buying one for everyone in my family who's dissabled, bed-ridden, or lives with cronic back or coccyx pain for christmas. Actually.. scratch that, because they will be getting christmas in July.. why would I let them suffer for another 6 months? I cant wait to go to my daughter's track meet (finally) & be able to actually make it through more than a half an hour. I'd better stop here because I could go on forever about this cushion.. in all seriousness though.. BUY ONE, you wont be dissapointed with the product in anyway..

Comfort for a smaller backside
By sistergennyVerified Purchaser from Boise, Idaho on 5/25/2008
Pros:
Too small
Best Uses:
Everyday, Men, Women
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This product will indeed help relieve stress on your tail bone, particularly i you have a job where you sit all day. However it is NOT made for anyone of a larger size. It is too small for the seat of my office chair and cuts off my circulation at the mid thigh because it is too short in depth. I am a size 16 / 18 and weight about 190 to 210 depending on the time of the month. So I would NOT suggest this if you are at all of a fully size, it will not be big enough.

Coccyx Cushion Big Help

Pros:
Easy To Use, Effective, Good Smell
Cons:
Should be Thicker
Best Uses:
Daily Use, Everyday, Men, Women

Great product but could be thicker to provide support on softer chairs that have a tendency to shink to the point of taking away some of the support.

Coccyx Cushion doesn't work
By ReviewerVerified Purchaser from Los Angeles, CA on 5/24/2008
Cons:
Not Effective

This cushion is too soft and it compresses so much when you sit on it, your coccyx presses against the chair just as much when you use it as when you don't. And I don't weight all that much.

It just works.

Purchased this for my pregnant wife to use when driving. Density of the unit (I ordered the large version) if exactly what I wanted- does not compress all the wall down but yet is comfortable enough to sit on for long periods. I'd recommend the large version for driving, since it's just wide enough to cover most of the seat.

This cushion is the best, "butt..."

If you are burdened with a coccyx injury, this cushion will save the day. I have had to use one for almost 10 years now after having my coccyx removed, and this one, by far, is the best. Go memory foam!

Husband loves it. I hate it.
By LynVerified Purchaser from Utah on 5/24/2008
Pros:
Easy To Use, Effective, Good Value
Cons:
Very stiff
Best Uses:
Daily Use, Everyday

I have a pillow made from this foam, so I know it takes a minute or two for it to mold to your body. However, in this case it never seems to soften up. Feels very stiff to me. I was looking for not only tail bone relief (which it does well), but something that felt like I was sitting on a soft pillowy cloud to take the pressure off my entire rear end...which it definitely does NOT! My husband absolutely LOVES it and uses in the car everyday, so it certainly hasn't been a waste of money. He gives it 5 stars.

i use this product everywhere byt recommendation of my physician. It is comfortable and I particularly like the fact that enables better posture. It may be nice though if it came in two sizes as sometimes it is inconvenient to carry large pillow everywhere.
