Purchased for 98 year old Grandma who can barely see. So a 6 button remote is better for her than one with 30 buttons. It was very easy to set up. I highly recommend. Would be good for children as well.

the remote is perfect for him as he is easily confused by too much information BUT tonight when it went to digital.......the remote stopped working...did we miss something in the setup? It is so basic I can't see how. We used the tv remote to rescan but that did nothing. Please advise if you had this happen and found a fix. We have only had the remote 4 weeks and I sure hate to have to find another.

This item was absolutely worthless, because the description does not mention that it cannot be used with a satellite or cable signal, even when there is no satellite or cable box. The price to ship it back is as much as the item cost, so not worth it. This is not a problem with the item, but with Allegro for incomplete information on their web site.

The main reason I purchased this product for my father is to make it simple and easy for him to operate his TV. His eyesight and ability to use his fingers is much more difficult with his age and this device is a tremendous help to him. I bought this remote for my parents who both have Alzheimer's. While the design is simple they both struggle with reading the buttons. They no longer understand the abreviations. However, I'm not sure what the solution could be. Also, the pictures showed that the buttons were lit up but they don't light till they are pressed which adds to the inability to read them. The lights do not stay on long enough. While this remote is %100 easier for them to use it still isn't as functional as I hoped.

I bought one of these a year ago and just bought another as a backup for my 80 yr old mom with macular degeneration. It works with older analog tv, I need to test with Digi lcd, hopeing it works so she can get a new larger TV. She loves this remote and I no longer have to worry about her calling me and telling me that she hit the wrong buttons and cannot watch tv. This is by far one of the best and greatest aids for the visually impaied, you will not be disappointed and it is not expensive. Do yourself a favor and get one for your elderly parents, visually impaired frriends etc.

I am a caregiver for my Mom who has Dementia and also has difficulty seeing due to Macular Degeneration. This product works great for her to operate. She got a little frustrated because it is slower to change channels because you have to use the up or down button. I showed her how to hit the Mute button first (so channel noise won't bother her)when changing channels. Another way is to hit the up or down channel button quickly. Works great that way! She is able to operate it herself. What is also great is that as soon as she touches one of the buttons, all the buttons light up. It is also made of very good construction. Great product! Great for the caregiver!

I bought this remote for my 93 year old grandmother who has macular degeneration(vision gets blurry from the center to the edges eventually causing blindness).She loves listening to CNN and Headline News. So we bought her a small new tv to put in her room.The remote had about forty buttons on it. she kept forgetting where the channel,volume,power buttons were.Saw this remote on the www and new she would be thrilled. She has not had to ask us to change the channel or turn the volume up/down for her for weeks. It gave her something we all take for granted. A small bit of her independance. I bought this for my father who has Alzheimer's. It's very basic operation is great for him. Simple and straight foward with large lighted buttons. The overall size is excellent as well- this remote is very hard to lose.
The only drawback was the limited instructions. I believe this is where the bad reviews originate from. After I first set it up, only the volume worked. I had to select another of the TV's onscreen cable input choices (there are three and I never knew there was a difference until setting up this remote). The second set up worked like a charm- all remote functions worked perfectly.

Because of Gram's low vision problems, she was often getting her TV remote into video mode or some other situation that she couldn't correct. We got one of these remotes for each of her TV's in both her Illinois home and her Florida house. Now, with all remotes the same and so EASY, she is delighted. She tells all her friends! I bought TWO of these remotes for my Mother. She now has two brand new 50" Samsung plasma TV's thanks to her sons and we needed to get her a more easy to use remote that didn't have 50 buttons to control everything she did not have. This remote was it! I was worried that the remote would not recognize a very new plasma TV and be able to control it like the manufacturers remote did. A simple programming and no problems, she was well on her way to navigating all channels fast. This remote impressed me... I just happen to install audio/video systems for people who have money to hire me and I have to say that there was no lag time and it was as if the remote was made for the newest Samsung TV. I am buying two more for her in case she loses one or in case these guys discover how great they really are and increase the price.

My Mom is a stroke victim with not only physical, but memory problems. A new TV for her entertainment was problematic, as the remote had very tiny buttoms and a myriad number of accessory controls, which she does not use. However, she was constantly hitting the wrong buttons and then was unable to "go back". This little remote is easy to use; limited in scope, in that it controls ONLY the TV. It is perfect for her use because of its simplicity, and because of the size of the buttons. Thanks for a great product for the elder, physically impaired and those with stroke affected memory.

For an elderly person with arthritic hands this TV control works excellently. While you cannot punch in specific channels my mother is able to use its up/down channel buttons easily and it suits her needs perfectly.

My 89 year old mother who has Alzheimer's was no longer able to operate the remote control that came with her T.V. She has been able to use this with no problem. I program the channels that she likes to watch and she can scroll up or down until she finds the program she likes. The buttons are big as is the writing on the remote. It is perfect for the use that I bought it for.

The remote does not work with cable boxes. Also, you must flip through every channel to move around; so you can't go from channel 3 to channel 88 without going through every channel in between. If you can get past those things, it's a great idea!

great product. i use 2 on my rca and samsung tv's.
as a bonus i use lit keys to find things in the dark. does not work on my new emerson tv with built in dvd player. a simple design where you must scroll to find channels.this is functionaly acceptacle. i am aware that your other larger remotes can be used for selecting exact channels.

We purchased several other remotes before this one, and Mom never seemed to be able to manage them. With this one, she has never de-programed it, and is able to watch TV, change the volume and channels without assistance. What a wonderful find!

This is great. EXACTLY what I was searching for.
My 90 year old grandmother loved it right away! Easy to read and use. I'm not sure what problem one of the other reviewers had when programming it, but I think it is very straight forward. Just three point and press button steps. No numbers to program in or anything like that. My grandmother may not have been able to do it by herself, but anyone who stopped in could.
I bought three. One for my grandmother, one for my 77 year old parents, and one for my 76 year old aunt. I can't wait to give the others theirs.
It has all the buttons most people ever really need. Keep your old one for other functions on your TV, but you can probably put it away.
Lots of people hit the wrong button on the standard remotes and then can't figure out what happened or how to get out of it. This eliminates that problem completely.
Oh and the buttons light up too! Honestly, you can't beat it.
I think it would be great for kids, also. That way they can't mess anything up on you.

The Tek Pal Large Button Remote instructions were not well placed in the package. The programming instructions were not clear and this item would be very difficult for an elderly or disabled senior to program properly. My husband is a technician and he was unable to get the mute function to work.
