Kinesio Tape - Kinesio Tex Tape Kinesio Tape is a super thin athletic tape, about the same thickness and the elasticity of skin and muscles. Kinesio Tape is made of a porous cotton fabric with a medical grade acrylic adhesive that allows the skin under the tape to breathe and be cleaned while showering. Kinesio Tape uses a special method of adhesive application combined with the porous nature of the fabric works 'with' your body. The Kinesio taping method provides a full range of motion, support, and stability, without adversely affecting the natural range of motion. Kinesio tape is designed for a 30-40% longitudinal only stretch and when applied, it lifts the skin and provides support for surrounding soft tissue. This Kinesio Tape is LATEX FREE and NON-MEDICATED. Kinesio Tex Tape was designed to be worn for 3 to 4 days without irritation; and an hour after application it will withstand athletic activity and showering without coming off. The water resistant type of taping Kinesio offers is necessary for the taping of hands and feet. Proper application does not require multiple layers; due to location of muscles, an application may cross over another application. What Does Kinesio Taping Do? Kinesio Tape gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without reducing circulation and range of motion. It is also used for Preventive Maintenance, Edema, and Pain Management. It is a taping technique based on the body's own natural healing process. This Kinesio Taping exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems. This method basically stems from the science of Kinesiology, hence the name "Kinesio". Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms. Consequently, so much attention was given to the importance of muscle function that the idea of treating the muscles in order to activate the body's own healing process came about. Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that muscles and other tissues could be helped by outside assistance. Employment of Kinesio Taping creates a totally new approach to treating nerves, muscles, and organs. The first application of Kinesio Taping was for a patient with articular disorders. For the first 10 years, orthopedists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and other medical practitioners were the main users of Kinesio Taping. Soon thereafter, Kinesio Taping was used by the Japanese Olympic volleyball players and word quickly spread to other athletes. Today, Kinesio Taping is accepted by medical practitioners and athletes in Japan, United States, Europe, South America and other Asian countries. See The Different Ways Kinesio Tape Can Be Used Shoulder Taping Methods Neck Taping Methods Leg Taping Methods Back Taping Methods Arm Taping Methods How is Kinesio Tex Tape Used? The Kinesio Taping Method is applied over: muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused and tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion. In contrast, traditional sports taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stability and support during a sporting event obstructing the flow of bodily fluids... an UNDESIRABLE side-effect. Kinesio Tape is used for anything from headaches to foot problems and everything in between. Examples include: muscular facilitation or inhibition in pediatric patients, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxations, herniated disc), knee conditions, shoulder conditions, hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, patella tracking, pre- and post-surgical edema, ankle sprains, athletic preventative injury method, and as a support method.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

My therapist began using this to assist lymph flow after axillary dissection and radiation caused me to develop lymphedema in my arm. I find that I do not have to wear a compression garment when I use Kenesio tape. The tape holds the skin just enough to allow freer lymph flow. Also, the beige color is appealing to me because it does not call attention to my problem.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

I was diagnosed with focal hand dystonia earlier this year. My playing was limited to however long my hand still responded - usually between 10-30 minutes. My therapist taped my hand one morning and later that afternoon I played about 2 hours without any issues. Between this and another arts-related therapy, I'm back to performing. This tape is supposed to last about 3 days, but I notice the edges lift after the first shower or after a heavy workout. Perhaps the adhesive formulation has been changed slightly - the beige color seems to stick to itself better than the red does.

It's important to find out from a professional how to tape with Kinesio tape for your specific injury. If you don't know your anatomy, you could do more damage.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

I ordered the Kinesio blue tape after reading about it on the Runner's World website. The blue tape is supposed to promote a cooling effect, while the pink tape a warming effect, and the black tape is stronger and more water resistant. I used the blue tape for runner's knee, and found it does provide some pain relief. The company that makes the tape claims it is water resistant and will remain taped for up to several days, but I found the tape coming off shortly after I took a shower on day 1, so don't count on it staying put. The black tape probably does last longer. All in all, it's easy to use, especially if you've been instructed on how and where to apply it for each instance. I wouldn't recommend this as a replacement to proper medical care, but it's a nice alternative to wearing a PF band if you're a runner.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

My therapiststarted using this tape while doing Astym therapy on my back for injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. We tried using this tape and not using this tape, and we found that the therapy and my recovery were greatly enhanced by its use. The tape is very comfortable while applied - after a few hours I don't even feel it, and I can leave it on for up to 4 days. I can shower with it on also. At first I thought the cost was a little spendy, but I have definitely concluded that the reciprocal benefits far out weighs its cost.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

This is an amazingly superior alternative to things like braces and ace bandages for unstable joints. My PT has been using it on my shoulder and it's been literally life-changing. You need to make sure you know how to apply it correctly to whichever area you need to stabilize and some areas will require the assistance of another person to reach it. It adheres really well and will stay in place for up to a week (depending on how much sweat & water you expose it to). It has a permanent place in my medicine cabinet!

Great stuff! I have had measurable success using this with pediatrioc patients. Some dramatic changes in children with spasticity. The one caution: some kids have skin reactions to the tape so parents need to be both vigilant and good reporters of negative responses. The kids who are pold enough to comment give very good feedback including a 1 year old who arrived for PT sessions announcing "Blue" and pulling up his pant leg for me to apply blue tape.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

I use one long strip inside my hands, full width at inside of wrist with 3 thin strips split to go over fingertips. I apply partial tension on the thin strips before sticking to curled (but not closed) fingers. This really helps hand fatigue when using computer and mouse all day. If tape comes off on the inside of finger joints, loose-fitting rubber bands solves that. Also, a long section inside my elbow, split around the inside ligament where it attaches to bone, helps circulation and improves healing for chronic tendonitis in that spot.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

As a physical therapist I use Kinesiotape daily on my patients to inhibit muscles I don't want to work as well and facilitate muscles I want to work better. This is often used to decrease pain or increase function as well as correct bad postures and inhibit bad patterns of movement. I use this product on myself as well to alleviate pain or increase my own function.
This product will stay on for the promised 3-5 days if you clean your skin well and make sure there are no lotions or oils in the area of the skin to be taped. Blotting it with a towel to dry it following a shower and cutting off tape which hasn't adhered will help the rest of the tape last longer as well. It is also best to wait a couple of hours following taping before participtaing in sports or getting wet in order to allow the tape to activate (as it is heat activated) and to adhere well.

Comments about Kinesio Kinesio Tape:

I am a Division 1 College Diver and throughout the years I have tried many different remedies to dull the daily aches and pains. These remedies rang from the basics such as heat and ice to different creams including BENGAY and ICY HOT. However, this past March I tore a major muscle in my left shoulder. It took surgery in order to repair and nine days later began PT. After seven weeks of intense PT I was cleared to begin diving again. Although I was cleared to dive, I was still unable to do most techniques needed to continue to dive. I ended up taking 7 months off and just recently began to dive again on a scholarship for the University I attend. While watching the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics I noticed Kerry Walsh (Beach Volleyball) wearing the Kinesio Tape on her left shoulder. I did some research, on my own, on the product and decided to give it a shot. I didn’t receive the tape until two weeks into my college diving season. Throughout those two weeks I was unable to finish a practice due to soreness and stiffness in my shoulder. The day I received the tape in the mail, my shoulder was extremely tight to the point where it was physically impossible for me to lift my arm past eye level. Right before I had left for practice that day my roommate helped me put the tape on my shoulder. In a matter of forty-five minutes I already noticed a major difference in a.) my shoulder flexibility, and b.) the strength in my shoulder. After about an hour of having the Kinesio Tape on, I was able to raise my arm completely above my head and had complete range of motion being able to circle my arm in a complete 360 degree circle. For the first time in over seven and a half months I was finally able to complete an entire 3 hour practice. Not only has Kinesio Tape helped with my shoulder flexibility, strength, and range of motion, but it is also 100% water resistant. On average, I am in the water for four and a half hours a day. Although I’m in the water for such a long period of time, I am still able to wear one application anywhere from 6-8 days. My coach and my teammates now joke around and call the Kinesio Tape “the magical tape.” I believe this tape does wonders and I would fully recommend this product to anyone!!!

She forgets all about the pain and plays on. We will continue using this great product for many years to come!

I have found great success with using this to treat my rotator cuff injuries involving overuse. Also use this regularly to treat ITP band problems I have had when trying to increase strength in my knees pre and post surgically. I couldn't be caught without this tape...it has saved me major bucks and time at the therapist(PT)
Only disadvantage Ihave encountered is from time to time I have blistering or a slight allergy from adhesive on the tape so I check it from time to time for irritation...benedril helps. It hasn't stopped me from using it though.
