ILEX Skin Protectant Paste
A New Innovation in Skin Care Management

Ilex Skin Protectant Paste is a topical Hydro Active skin barrier that seals out wetness to heal and protect severely damaged skin. Ilex is the only skin protectant that provides a 0.00cm/hr moisture penetration rate.

Ilex Skin Protectant Paste is a topical barrier designed to provide soothing, healing relief to patients who suffer from skin breakdown and irritation. By easing the discomfort, this non-toxic petrolatum-based product may actually decrease the need for pain and anxiety medications.

Ilex does not contain alcohol or latex, so it’s safe to use on the most fragile skin such as neonates.

Particularly effective against digestive and urinary acids, Ilex Skin Protectant Paste is currently being used for four main medical conditions:

  • Pediatric and adult peri-anal excoriation
  • Severe Diaper Dermatitis
  • G-tube site irritation and excoriation
  • Ostomy site irritations and excoriation

Ilex Skin Protectant Paste Features and Benefits:

  • Creates a moist environment that helps prevent infection and maximize healing
  • Minimizes trauma to existing wounds; limits maceration
  • Adheres to moist weeping tissue
  • Washes off easily with soap and water
  • Soft, flexible and easy to apply
  • Inert and non-toxic; contains no alcohol or latex
  • Bio-compatible with ostomy appliances and other medical and surgical devices
  • Causes no friction; non-sensitizing
  • Ilex is not absorbed systemically so it's safe to use on newborns and geriatrics
  • Hospital and pediatrician recommended

Good in theory.... Verified Purchaser

Pros:
No smell.
Cons:
Too Greasy or Heavy. Sticky.
Best Uses:
Around Stoma.
Describe Yourself:
Brand Buyer.

Bought this to apply around my G tube stoma...I was looking forward to using this product, but was disappointed. It was very grainy and once it had been on my skin for awhile, it had become very sticky and almost became like an adhesive on my skin. I found it very hard to remove from my skin as well as from my G tube and external bumper. Im sure it does a good job at protecting the surrounding skin (around the stoma) from gastric drainage, but that is probably only because it is so sticky and thick.

Miracle cream Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Protects skin. Heals.
Cons:
Doesn't Absorb Well.
Best Uses:
Dirty diaper rash.
Describe Yourself:
Budget Buyer.

My newborn had a NASTY diaper rash from constantly sitting in a dirty diaper as he recovers from colon surgery. The usual diaper creams did not cut it. This product seriously worked miracles. His behind was missing skin on it...the rash was so bad. Now it is all healed and he feels so much better. This product is like a glue that sticks to the skin. It is a little messy to clean between changes, but well worth it given the results. HIGHLY recommended.

Super product!

Pros:
provides moisture barrier.
Best Uses:
denuded skin diaper area. Diaper rash. raw, weepy sores.
Describe Yourself:
Quality Oriented.

Saved our lives! My newborn infant developed several small open areas on his bottom. Regular diaper creams were not working because they would not stick to the raw skin like Ilex does. Ilex covered the area so it could heal. Make sure you have Vaseline to go with it...instructions say to cover Ilex with the vaseline to keep it from sticking to the diaper. The areas started healing in 2 days!

MIRACLE IN A TUBE!!

Pros:
Long Lasting. Soothes Skin. Goes On Smoothly.
Best Uses:
Irritated Skin. Dry/Chapped Skin. Daily Use.
Describe Yourself:
Quality Oriented.

One of my twin daughters was born with Hirschsprung's Disease. Having her pull-through surgery at two weeks old meant that her colon wouldn't be able to absorb everything she ate like a normal persons colon would. HD babies have more acidic poop than normal babies, which left her with pretty severe (& constant) diaper rashes. We tried SO many products to help her poor butt & were finally referred to Ilex. It. Is. A. Miracle. We use it every time we see her butt get sore & by her next changing..she's 99% better. Never in my life have I seen a product that ACTUALLY does what it says..plus more! There is ALWAYS ILEX in our home and we will continue to use it for as long as she needs it. THANK YOU ILEX!!!!

Answer:
I have used the Ilex Skin Protectant Paste around the gastrostomy site on the belly of my daughter for about 10 years. Her button leaks a lot, and stomach acid can be quite corrosive to skin. Also, wetness of any kind for extended periods can lead to yeast infections or even bacterial invasion. I have had great success in preventing skin breakdown under these conditions with the use of the Ilex paste. I clean the area with soap and water, and rinse with water, gently dry, apply a light dusting of antifungal powder, then liberally apply the Ilex around the stoma. The Ilex is not irritating to the tissue within the opening if some gets in there. I cover the Ilex with a foam padding cut to a diameter of about 1.5 inches, put a cut-to-size papery gauze over that (Excilon drain sponge), and tape down with Hypafix tape. My daughter likes to rub the area, so the tape protects the dressing. I have heard that Desitin cream provides much of the same benefit around stomas, but I have never needed to try that since the Ilex works so well.

Answer:
Absolutely, I have had a feeding tube for ten years and had struggled with skin irritation around the opening for several years. Finally this product was suggested to me by a wound specialist and within a few weeks the skin was healed around my tube. I use this product daily and have no problems what so ever.
