Nova Comet 330 Lightweight Transport Chair w/hand brakes

Travel in style with the Nova Super Lightweight Colored Comet Transport Wheelchair. The Nova Comet 330 weighs in at only 19 lbs without footrests (22 lbs including footrests), this aluminum patient transfer chair is much lighter than a standard steel wheelchair - making lifting easier for the care provider. The quick release fold-down back allows the Nova Comet to fit compactly into small areas. Comfortable padded black cloth material is re-enforced to prevent stretching and ripping. Pros:
Compact. Well Constructed. Lightweight.
Best Uses:
Long Trips. Daily Use.
Describe Yourself:
Caregiver.

My wife has early-onset Alzheimer's. We have been doing a morning walk of several miles every day since 1993. However she is beginning to have trouble going the entire distance as her motor skills decline. I bought the chair as a 'sag wagon'. We walk her abut half way now, then finish the walk with her riding in the chair. As the disease progresses we'll use the chair inside. The chair easily fits through the narrowist doorway in my house. There were several features that led me to this chair. I'm 6' 1" tall. Pushing shorter chairs hurts my back. The 39 1/2" handle height works well for me. The handles themselves are very comfortable because of molded thumb rests. The brake handle wheel lock feature is handy (just press down). We added a couple of 'cup holders' to the handles so that the chair operator can take along a cup of coffee, plus something to drink for my wife. I wanted the larger rear wheels for a smoother ride along the sidewalks of our town. The chair is lightweight and can fold small enough to fit into the trunk of my Civic. Why not 5 Stars? The chair flexes a little on uneven terrain (driveways) - which may be true of folding chairs in general. On balance, I'm very satisfied with the chair.

Pros:
Lightweight. Easy To Use. Attractive.
Best Uses:
Travel.

Works great for getting mom out and about. She likes the color over some of the standard shiny metal hospital looking transporters and it's a lot lighter and easy to get in and out of th e trunk.

Could be better

Pros:
Lightweight.
Cons:
Hard To Use. Poorly Constructed.
Best Uses:
Short Distances. Indoors. Outdoors.
Describe Yourself:
Short Term User. Caregiver.

I am glad I did not pay any more then I did for this chair. It is adequate for our needs but when it arrived I had to fight for quite a while to get it pulled apart to open it the first time and shortly after that the right brake assembly literally went BOING! The clamp moving around has stripped the paint in that area besides marring the aluminum tubing. I had to attempt to repair it myself and it is still not 100%. One handle also will not fold completely back without a great deal of difficulty so it isn't quite as compact and I am concerned about further damage to the chair itself. The removable footrests are nice but I can not adjust them so luckily they were at the length we needed coming out of the box. The chair when folded will fit in the trunk of a Civic but I'm afraid getting it in the backseat will either be impossible or another struggle. It does handle fairly well on uneven sidewalks and seems to be fairly comfortable. The straps on the footrest are a nice idea but do not stay on their posts so you either have to leave them dangling or keep stopping to put them back. If they added anything to this chair I would suggest a strap or something to "lock" it in the folded position for getting it in and out of a trunk. I wish I could have rated this higher then a 3 but there were to many petty annoyances right off the bat to rate it any higher. I would recommend it but not wholeheartedly.

Very good light weight wheel chair Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Well Constructed. Lightweight. Stores Easily. Safe. Easy To Use. Supports Weight.
Best Uses:
Long Distances.
Describe Yourself:
Elderly. Long Term User.

My husband has weight restrictions, so this makes it easy for him to handle. I don't think that it would be satisfactory for rough terrain or a lot of uneven surfaces.

Question:
are the footrests adjustable? also, I wish this came in 17in width as my friend/patient is slender, would allow her to more comfortably rest her arms on the arm rests. I see there is a less deluxe model 17 in wide but that one doesn't have the nice 12 in back wheels.
