This is my procedure: Flip open cap, squeeze needed amount on clean surface with-out touching tube to anything, flip cap closed. Use lubricant from surface. If this is not sterile enough for your needs then I suggest you use Surgilube Lubricating Jelly - Sterile - 3 gm - foilpac.
