Product Overview
Quickie Wheelchairs Quickie XTender Power Assist
Purpose of Product
Power Assist is a new technology that provides significant value to those individuals struggling to maintain their mobility in a manual chair. The Quickie Xtender provides an additional power boost to wheels upon the users input force on the pushrims. This added boost often provides the necessary force to get the users up hills or to allow them to continue on in a manual chair when shoulder pain, strength or fatigue might otherwise force them to go to a powered wheelchair.
Features/Benefits
Power Assistance of either 1:1.5 or 1:3
Two versions can be purchased one that provides a torque boost to
1.5x the input, or 3x the input, depending upon how much
assistance the user requires.
Quick disconnect wheels
The wheels easily disconnect from the Q2 or Q2HP frame for easy
transport or for changing to or from manual wheels
Synchronized operation
Unlike other power assist units in the market, the Quickie
Xtender’s two motors communicate with each other. This allows the
chair to track straight even if the user’s input on one push rim
is more powerful than the other. This compensation makes sure the
user goes where they intend.
Transportability
The Quickie Xtender is the most convenient power assist product to transport. Not only are its wheels quick release, but its components are the lightest weight available. One wheel weighs 14.2 lbs, the other 17.5 lbs, while the battery pack is only 6.5 lbs. This is relative to the Alber Emotion system where each wheel weighs 26.5 lbs.
Battery Capacity
The Quickie Xtender uses the latest battery technology, incorporating a 7 Ahr NiMH battery. This contrasts to the competition which operates on two 1.9 Ahr NiCd batteries. This provides the Quickie Xtender extended range. Further the single battery used by the Xtender means balanced charging and depletion of the battery, versus using two independent batteries for each wheel which can lead to uneven charging and depletion and uneven life.
One chair, one source
The Xtender power assist product is the only power assist unit custom fit at the same factory that produces the manual chair. This ensures that the Xtender is properly fit to your manual chair and if any problems do arise, you need only deal with a single manufacturer.

Definition of a Motor Assist A power-assisted wheelchair is a manual wheelchair with a motorized boost. This boost is sometimes referred to as a "torque multiplier". Whenever the handrims are pushed forward or backward the motorized boost engages. |
|
The power assist actually increases the torque applied to the wheel. The Quickie Xtender is available in two versions:
User force + Power Assist = Total force
1.5:1 Torque Multiplier (1.0 ft/lbs. + 1.5 ft/lbs. = 2.5 ft/lbs.)
3.0:1 Torque Multiplier (1.0 ft/lbs. + 3.0 ft/lbs. = 4.0 ft/lbs.)
Some Potential Users
Manual-chair users who need a power chair but feel more comfortable with manual-chair style operation. Paraplegics 40 to 60 years old who are beginning to experience shoulder problems. Individuals with neuro/muscular degenerative diseases that worsen over time. C5, C6, C7 spinal cord injuries. Over a period of time, the non-paralyzed shoulder muscles will pull the shoulder joint out of place. A motor assist helps reduce the build-up of these muscles.

Transportability The quick disconnect wheels and removable battery make transporting the chair much easier than a traditional power chair. |
Battery 6.25 lbs *Wheel 1 14.2 lbs *Wheel 2 17.5 lbs * includes axles 37.95 lbs |
Synchronized Wheels
Tracking a straight line in a power assisted chair can sometimes be a challenge. To eliminate this problem, the drive wheels of the Quickie Xtender are electronically synchronized. This feature is unique to the Quickie Xtender.
Wheels
The quick release wheels slot into a special axle plate. This plate features a sleeve for the axle and alignment pin. Due to the placement of the motor, it has only one mounting position.
On/Off Switch
The on/off switch is located on an adjustable mount on the right hand side of the chair.
Battery and Charger
Battery ships with its own charger.
