Hyalofill Wound Dressing - 5g Ribbon

What is Hyalofill?

Hyalofill is a new advanced wound care technology. Hyalofill is a soft, conformable, and absorbent biopolymeric fleece or ribbon entirely composed of HYAFF*, an ester of hyaluronic acid.

Hyalofill provides a safe, effective, and practical way to bring relief to the frustrations of managing difficult to heal wounds. It is a primary dressing that is comfortable for the patient and easily conforms to various wound shapes.

Hyalofill-F is indicated for:

· Leg ulcers
· Pressure ulcers (Stages II-IV)
· Diabetic ulcers
· Surgical wounds (postoperative, donor sites, dermatological)
· Superficial and partial-thickness burns
· Traumatic wounds
· Abrasions, lacerations, and minor cuts

Hyalofill-R is suitable for deep exuding wounds, sinuses, and fistulae. Hyalofill may also be used on infected wounds under the supervision of a health care professional.

* HYAFF is a registered trademark of Fidia Advanced Biopolymers, s.r.l

How Hyalofill works

Hyalofill sheets (5 cm x 5 cm) and ribbons (4" long) are made of 100% HYAFF, a patented technology for esterifying hyaluronic acid. Hyalofill liberates hyaluronic acid (HA) as it breaks down1,2 upon contact with wound exudate, forming a soft, cohesive gel which provides a moist wound environment which is supportive of the healing process.

The Hyalofill biopolymer degrades on contact with wound fluid allowing for more available HA than biologically possible under normal conditions.1,2 HA is a biocompatible naturally occurring carbohydrate component of the extracellular matrix of human skin, joints, eyes, and most organs and tissues.3

Hyalofill may last up to 3 days in the wound environment before completely degrading, depending upon exudate levels.

Hyalofill Application Instructions*

Step (1) Wound Cleansing

Cleanse wound by gently irrigating with a solution such as saline.

Note: The greatest benefit from Hyalofill will be achieved when it directly contacts viable tissue. If the wound surface is covered with slough or eschar, it is advisable to consider debridement prior to the application of Hyalofill.

Step (2) Applying Hyalofill

Apply, covering the entire surface of the wound. Hyalofill may be cut or folded to suit the shape and size of the wound. With large wounds, multiple sheets may be applied and overlapped, ensuring consistent contact with the wound surface. Do not overpack the wound, allowing for some expansion as wound fluid is absorbed. Hyalofill will absorb wound fluid to form a viscous HA-rich gel, and may be left in place for up to 3 days.

Step (3) Secondary Dressing

Hyalofill may be covered with either a gauze-type dressing or an absorptive moist wound-healing product such as a hydrocolloid or foam dressing. Consideration should be given to the volume of wound fluid and the secondary dressing's capacity to manage the fluid volume.

Step (4) Dressing Removal

Hyalofill is 100% biodegradable. Any residual gel found at dressing change can be easily removed by irrigating the wound with normal saline

Note: Hyaluronic acid is only liberated as the product converts to gel and begins to degrade. With dry, or minimally exuding wounds, Hyalofill should be premoistened with normal saline.
