A: they are only covered if the vna is administering your care. once they leave, you havw to pay out of pocket for your own medical supplies, you can take a tax deduction if your health care expenses exceed a certain percentage of your income however, so save your itemized receipts for everything including mileage, all out of pocket for prescriptions, other medical and doc bills, etc... Q: I just dressed a fairly dry, very shallow pressure ulcer using Mepilex for the first time. I put hydrogel on the wound bed, to make sure it stayed moist, since this is an absorbent dressing. Does that make sense?

A: We used these for a pressure sore on my son's hip per a wound care nurse's instruction. It was suggested that we put a small amount of petrolium jelly around the outside of the sore only to keep the surrounding skin protected. We also used Medihoney on top of the sore to help keep it clean and help it heal. Once the sore was no longer draining the nurses advised us to take the bandage off prior to showers and reuse it. We would be able to get a few day's usage out of it. They are expensive little buggers, but well worth it as they work like a charm.
