Q:
hello i am a paraplegic i just want to ask what is 14FR 16FR 18FR 20FR? is that the size..which is the biggest?
Asked on May 15, 2013 8:05:13 AM by ansyd from australia
A:
These are size diameter measurement designations. The FR means 'French' who were the ones to establish the sizes. Anything smaller than 14 is essentially pediatric & not adequate for adult use, but that depends on the individual. In general, 16-22 are pretty commonly used. There are sizes as big as 28 & possibly some are made even bigger but we've never tried anything bigger than 24 & sizes that large can lead to urethral spasms & leakage around the tube.
