Q:
Why would anyone use Surgilube for anything otherbthan a Bowel Pogram? The hydrophilic coated catheters are more sanitary, smoother, more flexible and do less tissue damage and everything is sealed inside the one package.
Asked on Dec 17, 2012 7:20:10 PM by Steve from Miami
A:
I use a catheter to dilate the urethra because of a stricture. A flexible catheter has zero chance of insertion. I cut the funnel end off a 14 fr straight catheter and insert a Leur-Lok syringe into the cut end. Insert the sterile end of the catheter into the 4.25 ounce tube of Surgilube and draw 1 cc of lube into the sterile catheter. Insert the catheter as far as it will go into the urethra without additional lubrication of the outside of the catheter and eject the lubricant. Then, insert a 14 fr Coude tip sterile catheter into the bladder using the lubricant already in the urethra. Works and is sterile.

Q:
Is surgilube lubricating jelly latex free?
Asked on Jul 31, 2012 7:38:49 AM by Tia from Santa Ana
A:
Yes, Surgilube jelly (and all others that I know of) are completely latex free. However, the catheter you use may or may not contain latex. Check the labels on those products.
You can always find out the ingredients of medical products at a variety of web sites, and always on or in the package of the product as well.
