Q:
It is getting colder here, so with her sweater and coat on, (my wife dresses in layers)so getting her arms in and out of the cuffs of the forearm crutches is difficult. Are there cuffs that expand/open up? There is enough frustration that comes with the need to use the crutches, so it would be great not to have to struggle with getting her arms in and out of the cuffs. She can't choose not to wear a warm coat.

A:
I strongly agree, and such is available, although not from this company (yet) and not at this popular price point. There is a Canadian supplier, Award Prosthetics, that does supply springy fiberglass cuffs that fit a variety of clothing options, but at a surprisingly expensive price point. However there options also include different colors, weights, and sizes so ultimately you may be pleased simply to move up to a more expensive-- and longer lasting-- pair of crutches.

A:
My pair of these crutches have rubber-coated(dipped) cuffs which are black in color. The dip is light and the coating does not last long (two to three months) before it starts to wear and peel and needs to be replaced. It is a big negative for this product which otherwise is well made.
