Great product, but...

Pros:
Solid Construction. Comfortable.
Cons:
Won't Stay Put. Hard to Control. Difficult to Use.
Best Uses:
Home. Daily Use.
Describe Yourself:
family member.

Dad has peripheral neuropathy and has lost substantial strength and control in his legs. He still walks with a walker, but has a lot of trouble getting up from a chair. I thought this lift was just the ticket, but here's what we experienced. Dad is 6'2 and 205 pounds. When I set the lift at 180, he had a lot of difficulty getting the lift to go down all the way. Then when it lifted him up, it nearly threw him on the floor. His reflexes weren't good enough to compensate for the strong push. So I tried lower settings and that helped, but not enough. I also had to tie the lift to the chair to keep it from sliding around. And the chair itself was sliding from the force of the lift. The chair we were using had a wooden seat and the back had a horizontal bar that kept catching the lift on the way up. For me (bad knees but good strength), it is a great product. I'll probably end up keeping it for the future when I'm recuperating from knee replacement surgery. Best chair would probably be one with arms, wide enough to accommodate the lift, and one that doesn't have a low horizontal bar across the back to catch the lift on the way up. Also, make sure the chair can't slide around if you're on tile or wood floors.

Pros:
Attractive Design. Easy to Control. Comfortable.
Cons:
Poor DURABILITY.
Best Uses:
Home.
Describe Yourself:
Long Term User.

Great for home use - I usually need a hand to rise out of a chair, etc. after sitting for long periods. However, I purchased the one for up to 340 lbs and although I weigh 100 pounds less - this item broke in less than a year. The mechanism is anchored to a PLASTIC-type sheet on the bottom and that is what broke rendering it useless. I did not use it that often - I did not get the amount of use from it that I thought I would. Great item and price - but do not want to purchase a new one each year. Would only recommend for short term use and less than 200 lbs. Not good for portability in restaurants due to possible sliding from chair /seat it is placed on.
