Stomahesive Paste - 2 oz tube

AllegroMedical.com presents The Stomahesive Paste. Hyrocolloid-based protective skin barrier. Use as a filler or caulk to fill in gaps between skin barrier and stoma. Use as a filler in uneven skin surfaces to help increase ostomy system wear-time and protect skin. Stomahesive® Paste is designed for use in conjunction with Stomahesive® and Durahesive® skin barrier/wafers in the protection of the skin around the stoma. Stomahesive Paste is not a glue or adhesive. It is used as a filler or "caulking" substance to increase skin barrier wear time by providing a flat pouching surface and helping to prevent leakage under the skin barrier.

Helps my colostomy bags last longer! Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Safe. Easy Storage. Lightweight.
Describe Yourself:
Average Health.

I use the Stomahesive paste to help my colostomy bags stick to my belly longer. I have a scar that goes from my belly button to my stoma so it creates a gap in the surface that is ALWAYS the spot where my bags start to peel away. I use the stomahesive to fill in the "gap" before I put the bag on. Then when it starts to peel I add a little more into the gap and it extends the use of my bag for about 2 - 4 days. I figure that a[$]tube of past saves me a lot of money over the long run since each pouch and skin barrier combo is about $10. It's great to keep handy on vacations and outings as well as a quick fix. I would definitely recommend it!

Truly better paste than others Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Molds easily. Dries sets well. Better holding times.
Best Uses:
Stoma.
Describe Yourself:
Caregiver.

Non-surgical stoma (fistula)- currently using to fill the HARD to areas/gaps around stoma area. This is the only paste after trying a dozen or so, that seems to perform well.

Q:
My aunt has a colostomy with a huge hernia around the site. The barriers are failing often and we are wondering if this is due to the hernia. Does it stretch and contract?

A:
Yes, the hernia around a storma affects the adhesive staying time because the stomach bulges and makes the barrier more prone to disengaging from the skin. I have a hernia under my storma and ecperience the same problem. I have not found an adequate solution to the problem other than having to change more frequently.

First, she should have the hernia fixed. The paste can help, however, it can be made more effective by mixing it with the Stomahesive powder to make it a little stiff then wet your finger and mold it where its needed. Also using the Hollister Medical Adhesive to help secure the barrier will help.
