ILEX Skin Protectant Paste
A New Innovation in Skin Care Management

Ilex Skin Protectant Paste is a topical Hydro Active skin barrier that seals out wetness to heal and protect severely damaged skin. Ilex is the only skin protectant that provides a 0.00cm/hr moisture penetration rate.

Ilex Skin Protectant Paste is a topical barrier designed to provide soothing, healing relief to patients who suffer from skin breakdown and irritation. By easing the discomfort, this non-toxic petrolatum-based product may actually decrease the need for pain and anxiety medications.

Ilex does not contain alcohol or latex, so it’s safe to use on the most fragile skin such as neonates.

Particularly effective against digestive and urinary acids, Ilex Skin Protectant Paste is currently being used for four main medical conditions:

  • Pediatric and adult peri-anal excoriation

  • G-tube site irritation and excoriation
  • Ostomy site irritations and excoriation

Ilex Skin Protectant Paste Features and Benefits:

  • Creates a moist environment that helps prevent infection and maximize healing
  • Minimizes trauma to existing wounds; limits maceration
  • Adheres to moist weeping tissue
  • Washes off easily with soap and water
  • Soft, flexible and easy to apply
  • Inert and non-toxic; contains no alcohol or latex

Great product.

Pros:
Protects and heals.
Best Uses:
Irritated Skin.
Describe Yourself:
Budget Buyer.

This is the only thing that works for diaper rash, period. None of the other diaper rash products are hydroactive and stick to weeping skin. Except for skin barrier film, which only stays on for one diaper change, unlike this paste, which sticks on for hours through many diaper changes.

It really works!!! Verified Reviewer

Pros:
Not Greasy. Long Lasting.
Best Uses:
After Shower/Bath. Around iliostomy stoma.

My husband has been using Ilex for over 16 years. It was recommended by a nurse who ran a program for ostomy patients in New England. It is the ONLY product - and he has tried them all - that keeps his skin from turning to hamburg. We retired to Florida 5 years ago and tried other products that his local doctor recommended - they did not work. Ilex works!! He applies to area around stoma after showering, nothing else needed. I can't say enough about this product - the only drawback is that it is sometimes hard to get.

Can heal denuded skin in 3 days"

Pros:
Aggressive barrier. Adheres to denude skin.
Cons:
Needs petroleum over it. Technique dependent.
Best Uses:
Manage open perianal skin.
Describe Yourself:
Skin Care Professional.

As a CWOCN, this product is the only one that I have found within my 23 years in practice that will heal a denuded painful perianal skin within 3 days. Applied to clean dry skin iLex must be fanned out in one direction to cover the entire area. This is done once per day. Then cover with liberal amounts of a vaseline type petroleum product. I have also used a second layer of vaseline petroleum gauze of the vaseline layer for severe areas. When the patients soils the area the petroleum layers are cleaned off and reapplied as needed. If this is done accurately the skin will be healed within 3 days.

Excellent barrier cream

Pros:
Soothes Skin. Goes On Smoothly.
Best Uses:
severe diaper rash.

My 18 month old daughter has a minor bowel issue that is treated with laxatives. The laxatives often lead to loose stool and severe diaper rash. I use the Ilex overnight to protect her delicate bottom from irritation. It has worked wonders!

Very effective skin protectant Verified Purchaser

Pros:
Soothes Skin. Seals out moisture.
Best Uses:
Daily Use.

I use Ilex to protect the skin around the hole of my daughter's gastrostomy button. Her button leaks a bit, and Ilex successfully prevents skin breakdown nearby, and also helps to prevent yeast infection by keeping the skin dry.[...]

Answer:
I have used the Ilex Skin Protectant Paste around the gastrostomy site on the belly of my daughter for about 10 years. Her button leaks a lot, and stomach acid can be quite corrosive to skin. Also, wetness of any kind for extended periods can lead to yeast infections or even bacterial invasion. I have had great success in preventing skin breakdown under these conditions with the use of the Ilex paste. I clean the area with soap and water, and rinse with water, gently dry, apply a light dusting of antifungal powder, then liberally apply the Ilex around the stoma. The Ilex is not irritating to the tissue within the opening if some gets in there. I cover the Ilex with a foam padding cut to a diameter of about 1.5 inches, put a cut-to-size papery gauze over that (Excilon drain sponge), and tape down with Hypafix tape. My daughter likes to rub the area, so the tape protects the dressing. I have heard that Desitin cream provides much of the same benefit around stomas, but I have never needed to try that since the Ilex works so well.

Answer:
Absolutely, I have had a feeding tube for ten years and had struggled with skin irritation around the opening for several years. Finally this product was suggested to me by a wound specialist and within a few weeks the skin was healed around my tube. I use this product daily and have no problems what so ever.
