does this powder apply to the skin then the appliance to the powder? I am having rouble keeping the convatec appliance staying in place, and looking for something to help.

I apply a small amount of 3M Cavilon Barrier Cream to the area around the stoma making sure to rub it in well.I follow this with the Stomahesive Protective Powder and make sure no excess powder remains on skin. Then apply 3M Cavilon Barrier Film. This assures skin around stoma stays healthy and appliance stays firmly adhered to skin. Using stomahesive alone causes appliances to not adhere to skin.

My rule # 1: always change appliance every 3 days wheither it need it or not; it solves many problems.
I shave cleaned area, lightly dust area, spray with 'Skin Prep' & while it is drying, I put a continous smear of 'Stomahesive' around opening of appliance. Then I attach it to skin & hold firmly for a 20 count. WIll last 3-5 days, no problem, BUT see rule #1 above. Have found that trying to save money by leaving appliance on an extra day or more can cause skin ulcers that make next application last a shorter period.

To keep your appliance in place, I think your best answer is to use the skin barrier, then put a thin layer of Stomadhesive paste directly on your skin, around the stoma. Then put Stomadhesive paste on the appliance, around the opening and place on the skin. Appliance can be moved a little, after it is put on. I use the powder on moist skin around my recessed stoma. Hope this helps.
