Questions:
My brother wears a 10&1/2 shoe normally. Should I get a large or medium "ezy-close post-op shoe"? The large is 10&1/2 to 12 and the medium is 8&1/2 to 10 I believe. I think his last pair was a large and it was a little loose. Appreciate input. Thanks.

I got the medium for my medium size 7 1/2 women's foot. With a thick sock there is no extra room width or length. It sounds like your brother definitely needs a larger size and perhaps even a different shoe if he has wide feet or intends to also wear much sock or bandaging.

I agree with the other answers. The size I needed was right on the cusp of two different sizes. In ordering the smaller, my toes actually hung off the open end of the shoe, unprotected. Besides that, when wearing the shoe, my foot would slide forward within the shoe, making it worse.

These tend to run a bit short so if you need a little extra length to protect the toes go with the larger size. I have also used an insole that you purchase at the drugstore to keep it from being too loose--use a piece of tape between the insole and the post op shoe to keep it in place.

Questions:
Does this shoe open all the way at the front or are the two halves attached in a way that limits the size foot it will fit around?

Had this shoe ordered to wear after bunionectomy/hammertoe surgery. Did a lot of research and finally ordered throgh orthopaedic specialty shop. Told sales agent foot is size 8 woman's which Darco⢠translates to "med". She ordered LG-a full inch of extra toe length. I told her type of surgery which is why I wanted this style - easily close over dressing. She didn't do HER homework as layers of post-op wrapping comes to 14" circumference. Flaps won't come within 2" of TOUCHING each other so the "ezy-close" would work with nothing much thicker as a dressing than a winter sock! I can't walk with cane or crutches with this shoe. as planned. Darco⢠has a post-op cast/dressing cover shoe, and gives dimensions of bandage/cast it will accommodate. Bad saleslady - bad Darco⢠on the Ezy-closeâ¢!

Shoe opens all the way. Place foot on sole and cover with flaps attached on right and left side of sole.
