MEDIHONEY Honeycolloid Active Wound Dressing
MEDIHONEY Non-Adhesive Hydrocolloid Dressing is not occlusive, and requires a secondary dressing to hold in place. It absorb light to moderate amounts of exudates. The honeycolloid pad will form a gel as it warms up with body temperature and as it comes into contact with wound fluid. As wound exudate is absorbed, the alginate forms a gel, making the dressings easy to remove without disrupting the wound bed.
Comes in adhesive or non-adhesive versions. This non-adhesive version can be used similarly to an alginate or a hydrocolloid paste to either cover or fill a partial-to-full thickness wound.
MEDIHONEY™ dressings contain 95% active Leptospermum Honey, which has been shown to have several properties which assist in promoting an optimal healing environment for chronic wounds and burns that have not progressed with basic, first line treatments. Through their high osmolarity, the dressings help to cleanse the wound and remove devitalized tissue. The dressings are designed to manage varying degrees of exudates.
Medihoneyis a medical-grade honey derived from the pollen and nectar of the Leptospermum species of plant in New Zealand and Australia. It is unique among all type of honey in that it maintains its effectiveness even in the presence of wound fluid.
Because they contain a very high percentage of Leptospermum honey, MEDIHONEY dressings are able to work in the presence of wound fluid, blood, and tissue, thus promoting an optimal healing environment.
For use on:
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Venous stasis leg ulcers
- Arterial leg ulcers
- Leg ulcers of mixed etiology
- Pressure ulcers (I-IV)
- 1st and 2nd degree burns
- Donor sites
- Traumatic and surgical wounds
Due to their versatility and lack of toxicity, MEDIHONEY® dressings can be used in all stages of wound healing, and can also be used as an important component of wound bed preparation. As such, placing these dressings as the cornerstones of a wound care formulary can take a great deal of the guess-work out of wound management.
