Silvercel Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing
2 x 2"
Silvercel Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing provides the broad-spectrum antimicrobial action of silver with enhanced exudate management properties of alginate technology. Use Silvercel as a primary dressing. Alginate forms a gel on contact with exudate. Cover with a non-occlusive secondary dressing. Do not use on third-degree burns or with patients with known sensitivity to silver or alginates.

Q:
Is this product better than the Honey and algae? It has worked well, but a little slow now. Does anyone know? I have diabetic ulcers on my feet.

A:
I use silver cell on my husbands Foot wounds / ulcers to aide healing and prevent infection. It's expensive but what's recommended by our wound center. I leave a square cut to size in place for 3 days. Remove with spray of water if stuck to skin and reapply another piece until healed. He lost one leg to infection and this foot is healing with this product. Slow heal but works.

Q:
should the covering on the silvercel be removed before putting it on wound? Or use it as is out of packet?
Asked on May 15, 2011 11:16:12 AM by pat from florida
A:
The silver cell alginate dressing has no covering to speak of, It comes in a sealed packet and looks a little like steel wool when its removed from the packet. Just prepare the wound and put the silver cell directly on the wound.

Cut alginate to size and apply to cleaned wound. Apply as is. There is no covering other than the packing.
