A hip replacement is a surgical procedure that is completed by a healthcare professional with the goal of removing damaged sections of the hip joint, and replacing them with foreign parts that are usually created from metal and/or very hard plastic to create an artificial joint. The artificial joint will ultimately result in decreased pain and improvement of function for the individual involved. An individual may be a candidate for a hip replacement if the pain experienced interferes with their daily routines and activities they are expected and want to perform, only though after less invasive treatments have been deemed unsuccessful. Damage to the hip joint from arthritis is the most common reason that one may need a hip replacement.

Raised toilet seats are divine inventions for those who have trouble bending to sit on a standard toilet seat. These elevated devices are routinely prescribed for short term use upon hospital discharge, usually to accommodate fractures or post-hip replacements and knee surgeries. Elderly individuals and those with chronic arthritis, hip pain, knee pain, back pain or mobility issues may require a more permanent solution to maintain independence in the bathroom.

Getting older is a blessing, for sure, but even longevity has its price. Creaky, sore joints. Sometimes when I stand up I sound like an old rocking chair making a bag of popcorn. And how about when it rains, or your hands get cold and you can barely bend your fingers? For some, these are just minor aches and pains, but for others they are the result of Osteoarthritis, or Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) - the most common type of arthritis. There are many types of arthritis, some more debilitating than others.
