Questions:
how long do we leave the dressing on

It all depends on the amount of drainage. I used to change dressings twice per day. Now my wounds are worse & drain much more. I'm up to four changes per day now. You'll know when to change by how saturated the dressings get.

i'm not a medical expert but i use these dressings to protect my patient's leg ulcers when they are in an open status. since there is no breathing through the protective telfa film, i would never leave a dressing on for more than 24 hours, and would recommend changing it every 12 hours. make sure bleeding is under control before applying dressing as some drainage may occur. it has been my experience that if any healing or protective ointments are used in conjunction with the telfa dresssing, you should change at least twice a day and thoroughly clean the wound and surrounding skin surface each time.
